Thee Champ (55,089) is back in Belgium! And there’s good news!
Monday 10 June, Victor will be participating in the Stan Ockers Criterium in Borsbeek.
Just like Victor did in his hour record, the riders will cover 55,089 km.
On the 2.2 km course you will see the riders pass every 2 minutes. And when Victor appears at the start together with Belgian champion Yves Lampaert and Thomas De Gendt, we can certainly expect a spectacle! Start at 16h.
He broke the Hour Record, fell in the prologue of Romandie, and in the final time trial he encountered an unleashed Primoz Roglic. And then the Giro. Because of the long rides, the many climbs and the bad weather, it was a very hard tour. For Victor it was all about saving energy. And then there was that stroke of bad luck in the tough time trial to San Marino, which he would never have been able to lose otherwise… After all, he started as the unquestioned favorite in the final time trial, with a beautiful finish in the Arena di Verona. With the fastest half way time he seemed to live up to his favorite role, but American Chad Haga wasn’t afraid and threw himself like an eagle in the descent. He knocks Victor out of the Hot Seats and again he has to content himself with an unsatisfactory 2nd place.
The expected victory wasn’t delivered, but if you come in second three times in three time trials, you can’t say you’re not doing well. Compared to last season, it’s another serious step forward. You can see that from the appreciation he gets abroad. Only this Monday he was at the start of an – after Giro – evening criterion in Italy near Venice. Four celebrities were called on stage. Vincenzo Nibali, mountain king Giulio Ciccone, Tour of Flanders winner Alberto Bettiol and our own Victor Campenaerts. On his way to the podium he was supported by his hour record hit Full Gazz!
What a difference with his early period at Topsport Vlaanderen. During Liège – Bastogne – Liège he was pushed out of the peloton by Fränk Schleck, with the words…”what are you doing here, boy, you’re nothing more than a piece of peloton “.
I do not know if Fränk Schleck will be attending on Monday, but the Vocsnor supporters will be present in large numbers. Victor is back and the hour record is ours!
